SEO Hydra is a Birmingham, Alabama digital marketing agency founded by Justin Lucas, who has been building websites and ranking them since 2001. We do SEO, web design and AI automation for businesses that want growth they can measure.

Twenty-five years of watching search change.

Our story does not begin with discovering SEO after a weekend course. It starts in 2001, when websites were written by hand, search engines were primitive, and getting found online meant understanding how the web actually worked. That early grounding is still how we work: from the code up, not from a dashboard down.

Over two decades we have adapted through every major shift, from static HTML to dynamic platforms, from early search engines to modern Google, from dial-up to mobile-first indexing, and now to AI search. That history is why we see patterns newer agencies miss and avoid the tactics they repeat.

  4. 2020sSEO Hydra founded in Birmingham. AI and automation systems built into how campaigns run.
  5. NowSEO, web design, AI automation and GEO for AI search, for clients from Birmingham to Sitel and Teletech.

Why the name

Cut one head off. Two grow back.

In mythology, cutting off one of the Hydra's heads only made more grow back. Search works the same way: algorithms change, platforms shift, and what worked yesterday stops working. We named the company for a strategy that does not collapse when one tactic does.

Instead of one trick, we build layered systems: technical foundation, intent-matched pages, local signals, content, reviews and AI-search readiness, all reinforcing each other. When one element shifts, the rest hold.

How we work

Four things we will not compromise on.

  • SEO is a system, not a trick

    No secret formulas, guaranteed rankings or one-size packages. Rankings are a byproduct of doing the work correctly.

  • Straight answers

    If something will take time, we say so. If the competition is strong, we explain why. Expectations are set early and honestly.

  • Outcomes over appearances

    Qualified traffic, meaningful rankings and conversions. If a tactic does not support those, we do not use it.

  • From Birmingham, for real businesses

    We grew up around the contractors, firms and local brands that make up this market. We know what it is to compete without a huge budget.
